Gujarat’s first and India’s third Sanskrit newspaper launched

On 25th July, 2010, first Sanskrit newspaper called, Sanskrit Vartaman Patram,  in Gujarat started publishing. Newspaper was launched simultaneously from six cities of Gujarat called Vadodara, Surat , Bharuch, Palanpur, Modasa, Idar.

Already two Sanskrit newspaper’s are in circulation, one is from South Indian city of Mysore in Karnataka and another is from Kanpur , Uttar Pradesh.

Initiative for starting a Sanskrit newspaper in Gujarat was started by some scholar’s of M.S .University situated in Vadodara. In the initial stages, 1500 copies of the newspaper was published.

It was observed that movement for rejuvenation of Sanskrit got encouragement from various quarter’s recently. Government of Uttarakhand recently declared Sanskrit as the second language of the state after Hindi. Similarly some villages in Karnataka uses Sanskrit as the mother tongue. (HMM)
